The Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto, at 7859 Yonge (L3T), was founded in 1924 by Ada Mackenzie and describes itself as the only remaining golf club in North America founded by women for women.
• Bayview Avenue at John Street. The Thornhill Community Centre, 7755 Bayview Avenue, on the Markham side, opened in 1975 with a Markham Public Library branch inside. It has twin NHL-sized rinks, two squash courts and the largest of the City of Markham’s rental halls, which holds up to 500 people.
• Heintzman House, Bay Thorn Drive. One of the oldest buildings in Markham’s part of Thornhill sits at 135 Bay Thorn Drive. Begun as an adobe brick cottage, it was expanded in 1817 by Colonel George Crookshank and took its present form in the 1930s under Charles T. Heintzman, grandson of the Heintzman Piano Company’s founder. After residents opposed its demolition, the Town of Markham bought it in 1966.
