How is it different from Backwoods Black Russian?

Both are dark, but they go in different directions. Black Russian works off coffee liqueur, cola and dark sugar, then dries out at the end. Chocolate is the dessert one: cocoa front and centre, sweeter through the middle, finishing on a faint bitter edge rather than a dry one.

Which of the three Backwoods should someone try first?

Vanilla first, if you have never had one — it is the least loud of the three and lets the leaf through. Move to Chocolate when you want the pack itself to taste of something specific rather than just sweet. Of the three we stock, this is the one that reads most like dessert.

Is the cocoa on the wrapper or in the smoke?

Both, which is what makes it work. Cocoa is on the wrapper and it turns up again on the draw, with the usual dark leaf underneath holding it down. That is why it lands as dessert instead of a flavour sprayed over something unrelated.

The Chocolate character

Dark cocoa rather than milk chocolate. It is sweeter than the Vanilla and heavier through the middle, closer to a chocolate cigar than a chocolate candy — the leaf keeps a little bitterness in the back, which is the part that stops it cloying.

These are tobacco cigars, not cannabis: no strain, no grade, no THC figure. They sit on the papers, wraps and accessories shelf beside the Juicy Jays blueberry hemp wraps, and we stock them for the same reason.

How they smoke

Rich early, plainer late.

Is Chocolate too sweet to smoke straight?

Sweeter than most, yes, but it is cocoa rather than sugar and the leaf underneath is dry enough to balance it. If you want the sweetness dialled back a step, Black Russian is the dry, coffee-led one and Vanilla is the plainest of the three.

What does limited edition actually mean here?

That Backwoods runs it in batches rather than year-round. We buy what we can when it lands; the count on this page is the count in the room, and there is no restock date to promise you.

How should I store a Backwoods 5-pack?

Sealed, cool and out of direct sun. Heat and open air are what dry the leaf, and dry leaf cracks the second you unroll it. We keep ours in a drawer, not the fridge.
