Why the same strain smells different from batch to batch

A strain name describes genetics, not an outcome. The aroma you end up smelling is produced by terpenes, and terpene expression shifts with growing conditions — light intensity and spectrum, root-zone temperature, feeding, how late the plant was harvested, and whether it was dried slowly in a cool room or rushed under warm air. Two growers can plant cuttings from the same mother and finish with flower that reads mango on one bench and grassy on the other.

Time then does the rest. Terpenes are volatile by nature, so a jar loses its brightest top notes first, which is why a batch that arrives loud can smell muted a month later even when it has been stored well.
