What a smalls sort actually is, and why it costs less

Smalls are the lower and inner buds of the same plant. Light reaches them late and at an angle, so they finish tight and small instead of stacking into a long top cola. They get trimmed and dried with everything else, then a screen sorts them by size. Nothing is removed and nothing is added.

The lower price is paid for in presentation. Bud size and structure are a big part of what pushes flower into the top band, and a smalls lot fails that test by definition. What you are declining to pay for is a photograph. If that photograph is part of why you buy flower at all, this is the wrong listing, and we would rather say so on the way in than hear it on the way out.

Is this shake?

No. Shake is what falls off flower and settles at the bottom: loose calyx, broken leaf, dust. These are whole buds that grew small, sorted out by size and otherwise handled like everything else off the run. The photo is the format — pieces you pick up one at a time, not a powder.

Does it burn faster than full-size bud?

In a bowl, slightly. Dense little pieces settle closer together and leave fewer channels for air to run through, so a bowl tends to hold a coal instead of racing down one side. Rolled, the difference mostly disappears, since it all goes through the same teeth first and the teeth do not care what size it started at. The real change is not speed. It is how quickly a large amount thins out on the nose.

Is it cheaper per gram than the graded shelf?
