Good news — you’re not alone. When visiting a dispensary, one question people often ask the budtender is, “How much is a blunt?”. One thing you need to know before that is what is the average price of a blunt.

How Does a Blunt Cost Compare to Pre-Rolled Joint?

Pre-rolled joints and blunts differ in price and it all depends on the quality and quantity of cannabis in the pre-roll. Besides that, the price can be different from province to province. On average, the pre-rolled joint prices range anywhere from $3 to around $7. If you’re purchasing premium cannabis, then you could end up paying between $10 to $15. 

Blunts are a bit of a different story. A standard blunt contains 0.5 to 1 gram of cannabis, though larger blunts can hold up to 2 grams or more. Since blunts are bigger than joints, you can expect to pay anywhere from a minimum of $25 all the way up to $50. Note that for edibles like weed brownies the price will be different too.

How Much Is a Blunt Depending on Grams?

While quantity is not the only price-defining factor, it’s one that you should know your way around. It’s one of the most important things you should know about before buying a blunt.

One Gram

A single gram of cannabis will generally run you a price of around $8 all the way to $20 depending on the quality. Paying more, you can expect premium strains or those that are organic or sustainably grown, but make sure to choose a reliable dispensary.

Two Grams

If you ever hear someone say they want a “twenty”, this refers to two grams of weed. The price range for two grams will be anywhere between $17 up to $40.

3.5 Grams (Eighth)

3.5 grams is also known as an “eighth” of weed because it’s 1/8th of a full ounce. In some areas, you’ll hear them being referred to as “forties” because that’s what the cost of them is, but sometimes you can scrape a deal and find them for $35. An eighth of weed can go up to $60 in some cases.

7 Grams (Quarter)

A quarter ounce of weed starts getting into the bulk pricing categories. It’s popular because it provides enough cannabis to last a while without being too bulky or expensive. They are usually priced between $60 and $150.

14 Grams (Half)

This is where bulk weed pricing really starts to take effect. It’s a great option for regular users or those who want to save money by buying in larger quantities. You can purchase half an ounce of weed for $90 all the way up to around $200. The average price sits at about $130.

28 Grams (Ounce)

A full ounce of weed consists of 28 grams and it is the basis for what everything else is measured off of. All of the previous weed measurements are based on a fraction of an ounce. An ounce of weed will typically cost you anywhere between $230 and $240. Sometimes you can find price ranges for $200, but also might find them jumping up to as much as $300.

How Do I Know If I Can Trust a Dispensary?

There are a couple of things to look out for when you’re picking your cannabis source. Make sure everything checks out — this way you’re less likely to get fooled into buying overpriced blunts.

• Check the license, since dispensaries in Canada must be licensed by the government
• Read reviews, checking to see what other customers say about the dispensary
• Make sure they have transparent pricing policy and clearly talk about product details like THC/CBD content or strain type
• Pay attention to the staff — they need to be professional and knowledgeable about what they sell
