How To Purge Wax And What Does It Even Do?

For the people that are into butane hash oil, or BHO as many know it, you probably know what the lower grade BHO looks like in comparison to others out there. When it comes to lower quality BHO, there’s a couple of different factors that make it that way, but the biggest one is that of vacuum purging properly. If you’re new to learning how to purge wax, it’s important in learning the fundamentals behind it.

If you don’t vacuum purge your butane hash oil, there’s a good chance that the color of it will be grey. It’ll also taste unpleasant and be full of things that you don’t want it to contain. This will not only drastically lower the quality of it, but also the entire experience. It’ll also have a negative impact on your health. If you want to purge your butane hash oil properly, then the most effective way is with a vacuum oven.

The idea of having to purchase a vacuum oven just to make BHO can be a little intimidating for those that are just starting out. If you can manage to find a cheap one on the internet, then that’s probably your best bet. Without a proper vacuum oven, the overall quality of the butane hash oil will go down the drain.

What’s The Point Of Vacuum Purging?

The entire theory behind vacuum purging butane hash oil is to get rid of all of the unwanted solvents that are involved in the manufacturing process. Getting rid of the impurities will leave you with a higher quality end product of pure BHO. The process of vacuum purging will create an atmospheric pressure for the oil. What this pressure does is it creates a boiling point that will allow specific compounds to remain intact and won’t damage the other compounds that you want at the same time.

If you don’t have the funds or space for a vacuum oven for the specific purpose of making BHO, then you could also try making a purging system. Even though the final product won’t be as good as the ones that are made with a proper vacuum oven, a homemade purging process is still better than not doing any purging.

Things You’ll Need:

• Big Pyrex Dish
• Vacuum chamber that’s heat resistant
• Vacuum pump
• Big BHO mat
• Electric griddle
• Electric hot pan
• Thermometer gun

Method

1. The first step will involve getting your extraction tube ready to go. Fill the extraction tube up with cannabis, ensuring that it’s nice and densely packed inside it.
2. Get your electric hot pan heated up. You’ll want to either do this outside or if you choose to do it inside, you’ll want it to be in a ventilated area. Fill the electric hot pan with water.
3. Put your large Pyrex dish inside the electric hot pan and crank up the temperature so that the water reaches around 40 degrees celsius.
4. You’ll now want to blast the cannabis and extract the butane hash oil right into the Pyrex dish. The hot water will be able to purge the liquid butane away. Grab a fork and move it around in the solution to get rid of any bubbles inside it. This process should take you about ten minutes to complete.
5. After that, you’ll want to scrape out the BHO and then move it onto the mat. Ensure that the layer you scrape out is nice and thin.
6. Now, you can insert that into the vacuum chamber and start setting up the vacuum pump.
7. Get your electric griddle ready and turn it up to around 42 degrees celsius. Put the vacuum chamber onto the griddle. With your thermometer gun handy, ensure that the temperature remains at a stable level.
8. The vacuum should be set to 27″ HG and keep a close eye on the BHO, ensuring that it doesn’t get too puffy, or worse, explodes.
9. Once everything appears fine, you can release the vacuum and then tweak it to around 29″ HG. Allow it to sit for about half an hour. After that, let it depressurize, and then set it back to 29″ HG. You can repeat this process a few times until you’re confident that the BHO has been purged effectively. The whole process might take around two hours. After it’s done, you can release the vacuum and store the finished product.

If you’ve done the steps right, you should have some BHO that will look like glass with a nice golden hue to it. The end product is known to be a lot safer and purer than it was before the purging process. This do-it-yourself method is the bare minimum for BHO manufacturing. The whole process could be made complicated to a deeper level with an entire lineup of different accessories, but for those that don’t have the money or time to invest in something at that large of a scale, this process is a good way to start.
