A Guide On How To Reclaim Dabs In The Best Way

For those that want to learn how to reclaim dabs, you’ve come to the right place. And, for those that don’t have a clue what reclaim even is, it’s never a bad time to learn.

If you’ve ever seen a dab rig that contains the sticky substance on it after you’ve had a few dab sessions, that is known as reclaim. The color of it is usually of a darker hue than a regular dab. Most reclaim looks brown or orange and has high THC levels. Reclaim is pretty close to the resin that you would see in a pipe after using it over and over. The only key difference between the two is the reclaim stems from a dab rig.

Sometimes people choose to use reclaim in their edible recipes, while others just give their dab rig a good clean before noticing a lot of reclaiming build up inside of it.

Interestingly enough, there was a lab in Massachusetts that tested four different reclaim samples and found that the potency of THC in these various reclaim samples was anywhere between 30% and 60%. The lab noted that there were all of the mainstream cannabinoids in the reclaim and an elevated level of cannabinol (CBN). CBN is the one responsible for causing drowsiness in people that consume cannabis in flower form.

What About Reclaiming Dabs?

Every time you go to take a dab, reclaim will get inside of it, and over time, your dab rig could become clogged up. A dab rig that contains too much reclaim will lower the entire experience, including how your dabs taste. If you want your dabs to be as good as they should be, you’ll want to give your dab rig a thorough clean on a regular basis.

On the majority of dab rigs, there should be what is known as a drop-down component in it that is used to catch any reclaim. This drop-down component is known as a reclaim catcher.

The way that reclaims builds up is due to the condensation from the vapor that will stick to the outer walls of the reclaim catcher. Initially, a lot of water is melded in with the reclaim. As the reclaim builds up in the reclaim catcher, a lot of people might become confused on how to remove the water out of it and further, how to isolate the water from the reclaim.

One of the easiest and most convenient ways to isolate the water from the reclaim is to bring the reclaim catcher to a level of heat that will enable it to melt. Once it begins to melt, you’ll want to flip the reclaim catcher upside down and then give the catcher a chance to drip all of that reclaim into a container underneath it.

If you have a dab rig that doesn’t happen to have a reclaim catcher, there’s another method that you can remove it with. Some people use alcohol, ethyl, or grain to remove reclaim. Ensure that you don’t use rubbing alcohol with this method. You’ll want to go with high-proof alcohol for this process.

• Try to dump out all of the water from the dab rig that you possibly can, but be extra careful that no reclaim falls out of it. The reclaim will be a thick and oily substance.

• Begin adding alcohol to your dab rig.

• Give the alcohol a chance to sit in your dab rig for about 10 minutes. Depending on how much reclaim you have in your dab rig, you might want to let it be for a while longer.

• If your dab rig contains any holes in it, you’ll want to cover them up. Start to shake the dab rig so that the alcohol has a chance to dissolve the reclaim more efficiently.

• After the reclaim starts to dissolve from the dab rig, you can dump out the alcohol and reclaim mix into a glass jar that is resistant to high temperatures.

• Put a cover over the jar that you just poured the reclaim/alcohol mix into and give it about a day to sit still so that the alcohol can evaporate.

• If you don’t want to wait a full day, you could also find a large bowl and add it with hot water. You then pour the reclaim/alcohol mix into that bowl of hot water. The entire process will be sped up because of the heat.

• Once you’ve noticed that the alcohol has evaporated, there should only be the reclaim that’s now leftover. Now you can scrape the reclaim out of the jar.

What Are Reclaimed Dabs Good For?

If all of the residual alcohol is completely evaporated from the reclaim, the reclaim has a couple of different uses:

Dabbing

Because reclaimed dabs still have most of the cannabinoids, as usual, users will still reap the benefits of the high that a reclaimed dab can provide. Even though it won’t have the same taste as usual because all of the terpenes have been eliminated, the psychoactive feelings will still occur when used.

Edibles

In addition, over 95% of the cannabinoids in the reclaim was decarboxylated, and this means that it can effectively be used in any type of edible recipe that you desire. Sometimes the flavor of reclaim can be a little off-tasting, so using a chocolate recipe is ideal because it will cover up the bad taste of the reclaim.

Tinctures Or Capsules

As the reclaim is decarboxylated and will provide psychoactive effects, it can be used in capsules or tinctures.

Smoking Reclaim

Some users might also add a little reclaim to their blunt or joint that’s full of cannabis flower. One thing to note here is that smoking reclaim can be brutal on the lungs and throat. Because of that, it’s typically more recommended to use reclaim for edible or dabbing purposes. You can still get high from smoking it, but be aware of the harshness it can create in your lungs.
